Rising Together with Ayọ Tometi
Episode 3: Aisha Yesufu, Human Rights Activist
The women at the forefront of the #EndSARS movement will always be mentioned in relation to this historic uprising as it is documented, both in Nigeria and around the world. One of those women, Aisha Yesufu, became an emblem for the freedom fight as an iconic image of her raising a fist during an Abuja protest made its rounds on social media. But Yesufu is no stranger to being a frontline activist, she garnered international acclaim for leading the #BringBackOurGirls campaign that captivated the world in 2014. Speaking to Black Lives Matter co-founder Ayọ Tometi in a candid conversation about her background and feminist leadership, Yesufu reflects on what the #EndSARS movement means for a Nigerian generation, and what it means to be a Nigerian woman unafraid to “soro soke”, that is, speak up!
